Library
The library can offer many valuable services for boomers. Not only do they provide the most recent good reads, but they can be a central access point for many no-cost services. You may be visiting this website from a library computer. From the library you can access your email, file your taxes, research your next vacation, or discover your lineage.

I’m hearing all this drib about passing health care for “Ted Kennedy”.. How about listening to the more than 50% of Americans that do not want the healthcare proposals now on the table?… how about NOT passing health care for “the people of this country”?

Hey, have you heard that Dan Brown has another book coming out in Sept.? I think it’s called The Symbol or maybe The Secret Symbol. Anyway, I’m #17 on the waiting list at the library. Can’t wait…

I don’t see how people make a conscious decision not to take responsibility for the well being of a child right from the start. It’s aggravating to see a pregnant woman smoking or drinking. Take nine months and dedicate it to the new life. My big extravagance when pregnant was a vanilla wafer with a banana slice and a few drops of chocolate syrup, and I even felt guilty about the chocolate, but I felt good about what I was doing for my child.

I reviewed three books for Shelby Counseling Associates this month. One about sex, one about marriage and one about fetal alcohol syndrome.
I was shocked at what I learned about FAS. It is a much broader syndrome than I had imagined. Most of us recognize the appearance of a child who is seriously affected…small head, low set ears and multiple learning and physical disabilities. But, in many cases, it’s not so obvious. The alcohol kills brain cells even as they are developing and so the wires get all tangled. Even a single drink at the wrong time can cause this according to recent studies.
But, saddest of all are the kids who have the syndrome and know it. They realize they have the learning problems and WHY they have them. What a tough situation for them and their moms.

Has anyone seen Glenn Beck’s new book, Common Sense yet? WalMart only has it on CD.

I remember sitting on the floor at the Paul Sawyier Library in Frankfort with a Walter Farley book in my lap. The windows would be open in the summer time, and I could smell the river. The library was a magical place…a starting point for adventures with The Bobsey Twins or Gulliver or My Friend Flicka. The new, high tech libraries are great…but, I do miss the smell of the old library.
