House of Worship
I have always heard that there are no atheists in foxholes. I’ve never been in a foxhole, but I know I have asked for assistance from God in much less desperate situations. Perhaps we can view ourselves as moving along an assembly line of time, getting closer to the edge of the inevitable cliff. As our grandparents die, we begin to think about mortality. When our parents die, along with the absolute confirmation that we are not immortal, we feel that we now stand at the edge, and that it will next be our turn to jump, or fall, depending upon your viewpoint. Most of us, though, thankfully think about God long before this. Perhaps you were reared in church, found God at camp or in a summertime Bible school…or perhaps you grew up knowing God but became disenchanted with Him when faced with a serious disappointment in life. And maybe you have now found your way back, but view God differently.
Give us your thoughts in the comment box below:
Has church been a source of strength for you, or have the people who make up the church been a disappointment?
What do you need from church, and what is church providing for you?
What are you giving to the church?
Have you changed your denomination from the one you were in when you grew up? If so, why?

I’m a member of that church, RayJ (you can call me Ray or you can call me Jay…remember that?)
I don’t know why they haven’t taken a public stance in a way you might have heard. But, I do know that in their services they are pretty strictly Biblical…i.e. that the first portion goes to God (from which MUCH is given back to the Louisville community in food, clothing, housing and many other types of ssistance from that church), that the Christian is encouraged to be a good stewards of his money because everything we have is His and that money is not to be worshipped. I think the basic Biblical lessons regarding money are enough.

Not much activity on this church page. Doesn’t anybody attend services anymore? Whoa!! What avbout gaming??
I noticed the former pastor of Louisville’s Southeast Christian Church came out against gaming, but the current pastors at this church DID NOT. Where they afraid this was a divisive issue that might rip half or better from their congregation… or just following their “conscience”? Was their refusal to take a stand- one way or the other – simply a business decision?? Or did they hide behind the skirt of their former pastor? I report–you decide.

Went to a local baptist church last Sunday. Do you know they actually had a woman making the announcements? Things have changed since I attended a tiny church of Christ. That church was built with two doors, so men could go in one and women in the other. Women weren’t allowed to hold leadership positions except for teaching Sunday school to children. Musical instruments weren’t allowed.
I had an adult Sunday school teacher tell me in a women’s class in the late seventies that the surest way to hell was “drinkin’, dancin’ and playin’ cards.” And she was dead serious.
Things have changed…and for the better. My church now has a full orchestra some Sundays, electric guitar and drums other Sundays. It’s a joyful noise.
I guess what’s important is that we have choices now…if we want them.
